This month instead of my usual Hair & Beauty Hot picks I am passing you over to my other half for a low down on all the best products for grooms….
SAVE Rehab – Revive and survive £18.50
I am a big fan of the Rehab products, created by Strictly Come Dancing hair and make-up artist Lisa Hilton, they are 100% ethical and free of parabens, SLS’s and sulphates, which means they don’t harm the skin, and leave behind no chemical residue. All packaging is made from recycled glass containers and 100% recycled paper.
Rehab’s Revive-Survive is an eye-catching and stylishly packaged product for use as required, day or night. The cream is infused with tea tree and lemon giving it an invigorating, lively smell and it absorbs quickly without leaving an oily residue. Definitely one of my favourites!
SPLURGE The Organic Pharmacy Ultra Light Moisture Gel £29.31
This gel moisturiser was definitely one of the few that stood out from the crowd. Infused with a light, slightly spicy but definitely manly smell, this product felt great on and lasted throughout a busy day in an air conditioned office. With extracts of Aloe, Green Tea and Liquorice to soothe, this is perfect for peaking up tired skin. The moisturiser is also free from petrochemicals, preservatives and colourants and contains a boatload of antioxidants to protect the skin throughout the day.
SAVE Clinique Skin Supplies for Men Face Scrub £14.50
Despite having a slightly disconcerting consistency (think toothpaste mixed with sand), I found the Clinique face scrub to be an excellent exfoliator without being scratchy (as many are). I’m a big fan of the refereshing menthol aroma which is great for waking you up in the morning and after rinsing off the scrub my face felt smooth and clean. A perfect base from which to start shaving.
SPLURGE Dr Lewinn’s Men Face Scrub £19.50
Dr Lewinn’s Face Scrub was another great exfoliating scrub which has a fantastic zesty, citrus smell. The scrub contains jojoba wax beads which gently exfoliate and help to remove blackheads as well as black and red algae extracts to reduce inflamation and aid skin repair. I was really impressed with the end result of clean and clear feeling skin.
SAVE Simple For Men Soothing Shave Gel £2.63
This shaving gel was another big hit. The Simple products do exactly what they say on the tin and they do it well. This was a great, uncomplicated, shaving foam without any frills that could be deemed ‘un-manly’! Not only does it come out of the can with a startling and impressive amount of force, it stays moist throughout the duration of the shave (I found some others were beginning to dry out by the time I got towards the end). It gave a smooth and close finish, highly recommended.
SPLURGE Elemis Skin Soothe Shave Gel 150ml £19
The Elemis Skin Soothe Shave Gel was one of the best that I have used. Unlike a shaving foam, this gel comes primed with micro-capsules (no lie, you can actually see them!) that release a complex of marine extracts and Jojoba Oil (known for their skin-soothing action) as you rub them into your skin. The gel base is also blended with anti-inflammatory extracts of Arnica and Chamomile and gives off an intense cooling menthol aroma and gives a pleasing tingle on the skin. The result is a perfect smooth shave that left me without any tenderness or rash.
SAVE Max Skincare Post-Shave Cooling Moisturising Crème £16
Max Skincare’s cooling moisturising crème works fantastically well as a post shave balm. Filled with Menthol and Anasensyl, the crème has a lush herby aroma and is quickly absorbed into the skin leaving it feeling cool and smooth for the rest of the day. Suitable for even the most sensitive skin.
SPLURGE Dermalogica Post-Shave Balm 50ml £23.30
The post shave balm from Demalogica is excellent. Going beyond the basic requirements of cooling and soothing the skin (which it does both of very well!), the product also contains ingredients to help prevent and correct in-growing hairs and to reduce the oily shine that is often seen after using such a balm.
SAVE Molton Brown Hydrosoak £18
De-stress, detox and delight in the new seamoss stress relieving hydrosoak from Molton Brown.
This hydrosoak transforms an average bath into a luxury pampering session with just a handful of granules. As you soak, let the intense blend of dead sea bath salts, seaweeds and horse chestnut extracts replenish and rebalance your body and mind. Great for exfoliation too, simply rub in to skin with a little shower gel to leave your skin feeling amazingly soft.
SPLURGE Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak £32
Having recently started going to the gym again after a 6 month ‘sabbatical’, I’ve had some pretty painful days in the last few weeks. The Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak is a deep-heat aromatherapeutic remedy, it is a powerful antidote to overworked, aching muscles, particularly after exercise. Energising and warming extracts of Birch, Juniper, Clove, Alpine Lavender, Wild Thyme and Blue Chamomile, combined with mineral-rich Sea Salt, ease tired muscles and recharge the body.
SAVE Fudge Original hair shaper £4.75
I also really liked the original Fudge hair shaper. Besides smelling like confectionery, the product provides great definition and volume that lasts all day, usually my hair looks a mess by the end of a long day, but this kept the style right through till my shower at the end of the day. Great for creating texture or just to hold your style!
The crème shaper is also humidity and temperature resistant and has a UVA/ UVB filter, so great for honeymoons in hot weather.
SPLURGE Clynol – Play With Me £9.95
I found this little pot of putty to be really effective. It’s the latest edition to Clynol’s Play with Me styling range and it gives an excellent matt, textured look to the hair with a surprising amount of hold (even on longer hair). It’s also small enough for me to take on my honeymoon without taking up too much space I my wash bag, plus it smells good enough to eat!
Spicy Energising Trio £25
This travel size gift set from Green People has everything that a guy needs to keep himself looking (and smelling) good on holiday. The compact funky red box contains shampoo and shower gel, 24 hour moisturiser and a 2-in-1 face wash and shaving gel. All of the products have refreshing spicy, citrusy aromas and two of the three are certified by the Organic Food Federation making them ideal gifts for the enviromentally conscious.
Dermalogica MultiVitamin Body Block SPF 20 £22.30
This is a great suncream from Dermalogica, it treats areas prone to ageing while blocking damaging UVA and UVB rays. The fast-absorbing formula instantly hydrates skin while forming a non-greasy layer (even sand won’t stick to it!). Skin-smoothing shea butter and oil of evening primrose quickly relieve dryness while creating a lasting barrier on skin. It contains no artificial fragrance so you won’t have to walk around smelling like a coconut!
Lab Series Daily Moisture Defence Lotion SPF15 50ml £24.45
The Lab Series Daily Moisture Defence Lotion is perfect for safeguarding your skin when you’re out and about. In addition to hydrating the skin, the product also contains antioxidants to help prevent the signs of aging and provides protection UVA and UVB rays equivalent to an SPF15 sunscreen. It has a very subtle frangrance and absorbed really quickly!
About Face Aroma Therapeutics Lip Saver £15
I don’t normally use lip balm but I really did like this one, it’s great for when your lips get dry and dehydrated and I’m more than happy to keep applying this one because it tastes really good, with Vanilla Oil, Golden Jojoba and the soothing taste of Citrus Zest!
