Top Bridal Hair Tips from Hair and Make-up Artist Annette Kemp

Screen shot 2013-09-22 at 18.09.48I was lucky enough to have the fabulous Annette Kemp do my hair and make-up for my wedding and I was extremely impressed with her skill, creativity and patience. Since 2001 Annette has worked all over the world as a professional hair stylist and makeup artist. Through her extensive experience and specialist skills she has established a reputation as one of the best stylists for wedding hair and makeup in London.

Annette owned and managed her own salon for a number of years but had always dreamed of traveling internationally providing great hair and makeup for any occasion. She decided to pursue this dream in 20XX and has never looked back! She finally settled in London in 20XX and has been busy working with brides in and around London ever since!

As a perfectionist, Annette works to help each bride create their perfect wedding look, a look that they feel confident and comfortable with. Annette completely understands the stresses and anxieties that brides can feel and she makes sure that each bride is delighted with the end result. This is why she is one of the most in demand hair and makeup artists in London.

Annette uses the very best products on her brides, I was so impressed with how my skin was transformed from looking stressed and tired to looking flawless and perfect. I was also completely over the moon with the romantic boho hair and make-up that Annette created for me, she even adapted the updo so that I could have a second look for the evening reception by removing all the pins and taking the hair down but keeping the loose plaits intertwined. Annette and her team understand that everyone is different. So whether it’s a traditional, glamorous, boho, contemporary or vintage look you want, she can do it.

Being in such demand means Annette is not always available for every bride’s wedding, so she has assembled a team of fabulous stylists who are experts in wedding hair and makeup and who can step in for Annette when she is not available for bookings.

As well as offering bridal hair and makeup, Annette runs workshops that allow you to learn the secrets of the trade from the comfort of your own home. An invaluable lesson if you are planning to do your own hair and makeup.

Annette’s prices are extremely competitive, you can find her full price list on her website www.weddinghairandmakeuplondon.co.uk

Annette’s bridal hair countdown

To achieve healthy glossy and well-groomed hair for your big day simply follow my month-by-month expert guide for picture-perfect locks.

8 months to go…
It’s very important to invest in a really good shampoo and conditioner that will keep your locks in good condition.

6 months to go…
It’s about this time that you need to start thinking about the style you would like for your wedding.  If you are considering going for a completely new look, now is the time to do it, you want to make sure you have enough time to get used to it.  Keep in mind the style of your your dress, the theme and your venue, as these could all affect how you wear your hair.  A traditional updo works well for formal weddings, whereas if you are having a low key celebration this allows you to be more flexible and informal with your hair style.  When looking at magazines collect photos of hair styles/makekup that you like and then bring them with you to your hair stylist/makeup artist trial.

5 months to go…
This is the time to find and book your hair stylist/makeup artist.  It is best to get them pre-booked so you don’t have any last minute panic.

3 months to go…
To keep your locks looking in top condition and for a bit of pre-wedding pampering book yourself an in-salon conditioning treatment. Ask the salon to recommend a product that you can follow this up with by applying yourself at home once a week.

2 months to go…
Now it’s time to get excited, it is time for your first trial. Your stylist will want to look at a photo of your dress and preferred hair styles/makeup. Also remember to take along your veil, tiara or any other accessories you are thinking of wearing on the day so that you can see how they are going to look with your finished hair and makeup. Don’t be afraid to try several different styles to help you decide.

1 month to go…
If you are wearing your hair up now is the time to go and have your hair trimmed one last time so that the ends are not too blunt and difficult to tuck into your updo.

2 weeks to go…
This is the time to book in for a final colour or highlights/lowlights to enhance your current shade (now is not the time to try something new). 2 weeks will give the colour a chance to settle but still look fresh.  If you are wearing your hair down this is the right time to go and have your final trim.

The day before…
Enjoy pampering yourself with a home-conditioning treatment one last time. If you are wearing your hair up wash it the day before the wedding as this makes it easier for your stylist to handle the next day without it feeling too soft and slippery.

The big day…
If your stylist isn’t coming to your venue and you have an appointment at a salon, make sure you arrive at the salon early so that you are not stressed. Wear a top that can be removed without having to take it off over your head as you don’t want to ruin your hair when removing your clothes. Put together an emergency kit, containing grips and hair spray, to maintain your hair style throughout the day and evening. Finally you can relax and enjoy the pampering of getting ready for your special day.
